The capital of Denmark, Copenhagen, is located on the islands of Sjælland and Amager in the eastern part of the country. The city is together with Malmö in Sweden, in the co-operation union ”Öresund region”. Copenhagen is an old city with historic buildings, beautiful parks and fantastic architecture. But here are also full of attractions and activities to fill your stay.
"Den Lille Havefrue" (The Little Mermaid) is probably Denmark's most famous sculpture. The bronze sculpture was created by Edvard Eriksen and was completed in 1913. He created this after the saga with the same name written by the Danish author H.C Andersen. The work can be seen on Langelinie, on a rock right at the water's edge.
One of Denmark's most famous buildings is the Rundetaarn (Round Tower). The tower is part of the Trinitatis facility and is an astronomical observatory. Something that makes the tower very special is that there are no stairs, but you go up the tower on a paved sloping path that leads up to the roof.
For those who want a fast-paced day, we recommend a visit to the city's amusement park "Tivoli". This is the country's most popular attraction with over 4 million visitors each year. Carousels, restaurants, cafes and lotteries in a wonderful mix. Every day during the summer, there are also live concerts on Tivoli's various stages. Here is something for everyone. For example, go to Wednesday jazz, Friday rock or classical concert with both Danish and international names.
A classic when visiting the city is to get to Nyhavn. The picturesque and charming harbor with its colorful facades is a real landmark. Sit on an outdoor terrace, order a cold beer and a ”smørrebrød” and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere.
As previously mentioned, smørrebrød is a must when visiting Copenhagen. The traditional sandwich usually consists of a slice of wholegrain bread with an endless variety of toppings. The difference from a regular sandwich is that it is more nutritious and is always eaten with cutlery.
The Høst restaurant is located at Noerre Farimagsgade 41, and serves well-cooked world-class Danish / Scandinavian food. Excellent service and a relaxed and cozy atmosphere meet you at this nice bistro in the corner by Ørstedsparken. The well-composed 3- and 5-course packages with accompanying drink packages are recommended and you will not be disappointed!
The city's pride on the football scene, FC København, plays in Denmark's highest division Superligaen. The team has been very successful in recent decades and has won the league 12 times in the last 20 years.
