One of the most famous and popular clubs in Scotland is Aberdeen FC, founded in 1903 in the portcity of Aberdeen in the north east of Scotland. Called The Dons, they usually play with their red jerseys and their home games at Pittodrie Stadium. The club's heyday was during the 1980s when they were a power factor in the country with more league and cup gold. The greatest honor was achieved when they won the Cup Winners' Cup in 1983, when they defeated the Spanish giants Real Madrid.
One of the biggest profiles of the 1980s was Scottish midfielder Alex McLeish, with almost 500 appearances for Aberdeen and 77 caps for Scotland. But the biggest legend is Alex Ferguson who was the coach during the successful years between 1978–1986. The passionate Scot later went on to great success in English Manchester United and was later knighted for his achievements in football.
