AEK Athens FC, founded in 1924, is one of the most prominent football clubs in Greece with a long and proud history. The club has its origins in the Greek sports association Athletic Union of Constantinople (AEK), which was founded by Greek refugees from Istanbul after the Greco-Turkish War of 1922.
AEK has an impressive track record in Greek football, with eleven league titles and fourteen Greek Cup victories. The club has also made an impressive journey on the European stage, participating in several editions of the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League.
One of the club's most memorable achievements came in 1968 when they won the Greek Cup and reached the semi-finals of the Cup Winners' Cup, the club's best performance in a European tournament.
