Sport Lisboa e Benfica is a Portuguese sports club from the capital Lisbon that is best known for its football activities. The club was founded in 1904 and since 1954 the club has played its home matches at the Estádio da Luz. In 1933, Benfica was part of the first edition of Portugal's highest league, Primeira Divisão, and has succeeded in the feat of never leaving the top division.
The club has achieved great success over the years, both nationally and internationally, including a number of league titles and 2 wins in the European Cup. Swedish coach Sven-Göran Eriksson led Benfica to league victories in 1983 and 1984. At that time, the Swedish midfielder Glenn Strömberg was also part of the team line-up.
