Bolton Wanderers FC is a historic football club from Bolton, England, founded in 1874. Originally known as Christ Church FC, the club changed its name to Bolton Wanderers two years later. The team was one of the original members of The Football League when it was founded in 1888.
In the early 1920s, Bolton Wanderers enjoyed a distinguished period, winning the FA Cup in 1923, 1926 and 1929. The team won their first FA Cup by beating West Ham United in the famous final played at Wembley Stadium.
Bolton continued to be a strong team over the years, but their greatest period of success came in the 1950s when they won the FA Cup again in 1958 after defeating Manchester United.
After several decades of promotion and relegation between the divisions, Bolton had a resurgence in the 2000s. The club played in the Premier League between 2001 and 2012, with top performances under the management of Sam Allardyce, including qualification for the European Games.
In recent years, Bolton Wanderers have struggled with financial problems and relegation, culminating in a period of administration in 2019. Despite these challenges, the club has continued to have a loyal following and is working towards a return to higher divisions. Bolton play their home games at the University of Bolton Stadium, formerly known as the Reebok Stadium, since 1997.
