Hamburger SV, often abbreviated HSV, is one of Germany's most historic and well-known football clubs. The club was founded on 29 September 1887 and has a long and proud history in German football. HSV has its home in Hamburg and plays its home matches at the Volksparkstadion, an arena with a capacity of roughly 57,000 spectators.

For most of the 20th and early 2000s, HSV was one of the dominant forces in the Bundesliga, the top division in Germany. The club has won the Bundesliga six times and also has several cup titles to its credit, including three DFB-Pokal victories and two international triumphs in the form of the European Cup (now the Champions League) in 1983 and the Cup Winners' Cup in 1977.

One of the club's most legendary players is Uwe Seeler, who spent most of his career at HSV and is one of Germany's most beloved football icons. Seeler contributed strongly to the club's success during the 1960s.

Despite their proud history, HSV have struggled in recent years and in 2018 were relegated from the Bundesliga for the first time in their history. This marked the end of their unique status as the only club to play in the Bundesliga since the league's founding in 1963. Since then, the club has struggled to regain its place in the top division.

Despite the setbacks, HSV remains a club with a strong and loyal fan base and deep roots in German football culture. The club has a clear objective to return to the Bundesliga and once again become a force to be reckoned with in German football.
