Football Club de Nantes Atlantique, or the more commonly used FC Nantes, comes from the west of France. The club was founded in 1943, in the middle of the ongoing World War II, as a result of several small clubs merging and becoming stronger together under one club name.
The club is often nicknamed La Maison Jaune (The Yellow House) and Les Canaris (The Canaries), which gives a clear hint that the colors of the club emblem and match shirts are canary yellow. In Nantes, they play their home matches at the Stade de la Beaujoire, with room for about 35,000 spectators.
Both Didier Deschamps and Marcel Desailly, World Champions and European Champions with France at the turn of the millennium, started their senior careers with Les Canaris in the late 1980s. In addition to these legends, FC Nantes has also nurtured many more established players, largely due to their well-known youth academy.
