Experience Formula 1 - Live at Hungaroring!

Hungaroring is the center of Hungary in terms of motorsport and especially in Formula 1. A few miles outside the Hungarian capital Budapest is the Hungaroring circuit, which has hosted the Hungarian Grand Prix since 1986. The race was thus also the first to be run behind the then Iron Curtain in Eastern Europe. The Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring is usually run at the end of July, which usually means high summer heat and wonderful weather.

After F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone, on the recommendation of a Hungarian friend, chose Hungary over the Soviet Union as the site of the first Formula 1 race in the Eastern Bloc, construction began on a brand new motorway just outside Budapest in the autumn of 1985.

Already after eight months, the Hungaroring was completed and on August 10, 1986, the first F1 race was run on the track with the Brazilian Nelson Piquet as the winner, an achievement he repeated the following year. In 2003, fittingly enough, the home driver and Hungarian Zsolt Baumgartner made his debut in the F1 context at Hungaroring.

Most successful at the Hungaroring have the German and the multiple world champion Michael Schumacher and the British Lewis Hamilton have been with four victories each.

The Hungarian Grand Prix at Hungaroring is often considered one of the biggest challenges of the season. Although the track belongs to one of the shorter ones in the WC series, just under 4.4 km, it contains as many as 16 curves and chicanes, which means that the drivers must always keep their attention on top.

Combine Formula 1 with swimming and culture

As the Hungarian Grand Prix runs at the end of July and the track is in a valley, the weather during the race tends to be really hot. At the same time, it is often also dusty on the track because it is not used as much during the rest of the year.

The track record at Hungaroring is held by Michael Schumacher, who during the 2004 race completed a race of 1: 19,071.

Thanks to the Hungaroring’ s location just outside Budapest, it is a race that can be perfectly combined with a long weekend in the Hungarian capital. If you have not been to Budapest before, it is a city that is really worth a visit. With a lot of culture, history and of course the world-famous baths, it is a city that lives up to expectations.

If you want to visit culture and swimming as well as Formula 1 when you visit Budapest, a package trip or equivalent through us at Go Sport Travel can be a good alternative. If you book a package trip, travel, hotels and of course the official ticket to the F1 race at Hungaroring are included!
