The next oldest racing competition is the Australian Grand Prix which is run annually in Melbourne on Albert Park Circuit! The competition became part of the F1 calendar in 1985 and then the Adelaide Street Circuit, the city race in Adelaide, hosted the competition until 1995. The following year, the capital Melbourne took over the honor of hosting the Australian Grand Prix and the focus was on the classic F1- land in the suburb of Albert Park, three kilometers south of central Melbourne.
Albert Park had previously hosted the Grand Prix, but 1996 was the first year as an official race in the F1 championship. The course was opened for the first time in 1953 and had to undergo a lot of upgrades and changes before its introduction to the World Championships. The circuit is today 5.3 km long, designed to contain both parts of public roads such as new road sections and the track also surrounds Albert Park Lake.
You need to complete 58 laps on the Albert Park Circuit before the black and white flag waves. The fastest lap during a race on the track has been completed by the German Michael Schumacher, with a time of 1: 24.13. The biggest challenge is that the track surface is usually known because the uneven and wet weather can contribute to a notoriously slippery surface to handle for the participants and their cars. However, the character of the track is usually described as fast and relatively easy to drive by the drivers and about 80,000 spectators can take a seat in the area and see world-class Formula 1!
The Australian Grand Prix had during its placement in Adelaide, all 11 years, been one of the last races of the F1 season. Since the move to Melbourne and Albert Park, this Grand Prix has instead become the opening race in the competition calendar.
