The Red Bull Ring, just outside the small town of Spielberg in south-eastern Austria, is the absolute center of the alpine country in terms of Formula 1 and also hosts the Austrian Grand Prix. The course, which previously went by the name A1-ring, has an F1 history that goes back over 40 years in time. In recent years, the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring has been run at the end of June or the beginning of July, in other words during a time that is very good for a summer trip to the Austrian Alps and the surrounding area.

The Red Bull Ring began to be built as early as 1969 under the name Österreichring and the following year, more precisely on 16 August, the very first Formula 1 race was run on the track with the Belgian Jacky Ickx as the winner.

After that, the Österreichring hosted the Austrian Grand Prix until 1987. It was also here that the Swedish driver Ronnie Peterson took his very last victory in August 1978 before he unfortunately had an accident at Monza a few weeks later.

After the 1987 edition of the Austrian Grand Prix, it would take until 1997 before the F1 was run again on the Österreichring, which has now both been rebuilt and given a new name, the A1 ring. Due to safety aspects, the track had also been shortened from just under 6 km to just over 4.3 km.

On the A1 ring, F1 was run until 2003 before it was time for a new break of just over 10 years. After the energy drink company Red Bull bought the track, a rebuild began at the end of 2008 and in 2011 the track was inaugurated under the name Red Bull Ring. However, it was not until 2014 that the Austrian Grand Prix returned to the track.

As the Red Bull Ring only contains nine curves, this makes it possible to reach very high speeds in several places on the track. The track record, which is from 2003, is held by Michael Schumacher and reads 1:08,377.
