Mexico City

Mexico City is the capital of Mexico and is an important economic and cultural center of the country. It is the largest city in the country with about 8.9 million inhabitants. The metropolitan area has about 21 million inhabitants and is the largest metropolitan area in the world excluding Asia.

Mexico City has a subtropical climate, which is characterized by long hot summers and short mild winters. It is warm during April and May when the daytime temperatures are around 30 degrees. During June-Sep, there is a rainy season, which usually means heavy short showers.

Attractions in the city

To take part in the city's history, we recommend a visit to the National Museum Of Anthropology. Here you will find, among other things, exhibitions from the Aztec peoples' time, and also from the Mayan Indians. Here you can also witness mammoth skeletons and learn about how people lived here several thousand years ago. A very interesting museum where you can easily spend several hours.

The world's largest and oldest square, El Zócalo, is located in the old town (Centro Historico). The square is surrounded by beautiful historic buildings and monuments. Among other things, the cathedral La Catedra, which is the largest in all of America. The cathedral began to be built as early as 1573, and was rebuilt in stages until 1813. This means that the building has several different styles as many different architects and craftsmen were involved in designing it.

The food culture in Mexico City

The Mexican food is tasty and spicy. Corn and beans have always been common ingredients in many dishes. The famous flatbread, Tortillas, is the basis of many traditional dishes such as enchiladas, quesadillas and burritos. Guacamole (avocado puree) and refritos (heated beans) are often served with these dishes.

A place to recommend if you want to try the authentic Mexican cuisine is the restaurant Zefira on San Jeronimo 24 in the old town. The restaurant is part of a university program, so the restaurant is run mainly by students and their supervisors. The beautiful layouts and the delicious flavors will not disappoint you. In addition, the service is world class!

Sport live!

Football is big in Mexico City and there are several football clubs here. Club América is the most successful club in the city and plays in Mexico's highest league Primera División de México. The team plays its home matches at the famous Estadio Azteca, which is the only arena in the world that has hosted two World Cup finals, in 1970 and 1986.

In addition to football, the big event in Mexico City is without a doubt the Mexican Grand Prix, which takes place once a year.
