Bangkok

The Thai capital Bangkok is located on the Chao Phraya River in the central part of the country. The city is one of the world's most popular tourist destinations, much for the favorable climate. Bangkok has about 20 million visitors every year and here the average temperature is around 30 degrees all year round. The best time to travel here is between December and March and during May-October there is a rainy season throughout the country.

Attractions in the city

There are many beautiful buildings to discover in the city. One of these is the Grand Palace located on Na Phra Lan Road near the famous Khao San Road. Here you have the opportunity to just stroll around on your own or participate in one of the guided tours that are organized every day. The palace is open every day of the week between 8: 30-15: 30. You can get here either by taxi, tuk tuk or by boat on the Chao Praya River.

Wat Phra Kaew Temple is located directly next to the Grand Palace. It is the holiest Buddhist temple in the country and here is the magnificent statue of the Emerald Buddha, carved from a single piece of jade. Over the years, the country's rulers have contributed sacred and valuable gifts to the temple, making it a real treasure trove. Note that sandals, shorts and bare shoulders are not allowed.

Bangkok is also home to Southeast Asia's largest aquarium facility, SEA LIFE Bangkok Ocean World. At the approximately 10,000 square meter facility with a total of 5,000,000 liters of water, you can see hundreds of different species on display at the various exhibitions. Here you will find everything from small crabs to large sharks. The aquarium wants to offer visitors both entertainment and education. Open every day from 11 am to 8 pm.

The food culture in Bangkok

To enjoy the authentic Thai food culture, all you have to do is take to the streets and discover the amazing street food that the city has to offer. It is very common for Bangkok residents to buy their own food from these street stalls and it has become a natural social meeting place. The hygiene is surprisingly good and the food is prepared to order from fresh ingredients.

Of course, there are also lots of nice restaurants for you who want to sit down at a set table. For example, the restaurant "The Family" in Phra Nakhon, an excellent alternative if you want to eat incredibly good and affordable Thai food. They also have very good vegetarian / vegan options, which can otherwise be difficult to find in Bangkok.

Sports to experience live

The national sport in Thailand, Muay Thai (Thai boxing), is deeply rooted in Thai culture and is something that only has to be experienced when you are in Thailand. Lumpini Stadium is probably the world's most famous Thai boxing arena and is located on Rama IV Road.
