Las Palmas on the island of Gran Canaria is the capital of the Canary Islands. With its approximately 400,000 inhabitants, the city is the largest city in the Spanish archipelago and is located on the northeastern part of the island. Ever since the first charter plane landed here in December 1957, tourism has steadily increased and become the largest source of income in the entire Canary Islands.
Las Palmas offers good weather all year round, with around 20 degrees during the winter months and around 25 degrees during the summer. The best time to go here we would say is September-October.
The Casa de Colón Museum is located in La Palma's historic district, La Vegueta. A beautiful colonial-style building that belonged to the first governors of Gran Canaria. This was also the home of Christopher Columbus himself when he stopped here on his way to America. The museum is open every day of the week and offers, among other things, exhibitions about the history of the Canary Islands and its relationship to America.
Something that characterizes Las Palmas is the beach Playa de las Canteras. This fantastically beautiful beach is about 4 kilometers long and due to its proximity to the city pulse, the atmosphere is incredibly powerful and unique. One end of the beach known as La Cicer is a popular haunt for surfers. Here you can spend hours watching the daring surfers tackle the big waves. At this part of the beach is also the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus. Here you can enjoy concerts, operas and the Las Palmas Philharmonic Orchestra.
The main shopping street in Las Palmas is Avenida Mesa y López. Here you can find everything from exclusive fashion houses such as Gucci and Versace but also smaller local stores. Here is also one of Spain's largest department stores, El Corte Inglés.
Spanish cuisine is famous all over the world. Paella, Tapas and Calamares (squid) are some of the country's specialties. At Las Palmas you really take advantage of what the sea has to offer and it is noticeable on the menus, seafood is the basis of many dishes. But here you will of course also find meat dishes, often in the form of skewers.
Las Palmas is a perfect destination for golfers. The city has as many as eight golf facilities that are open all year round and the competition keeps the quality of the courses high.
One of these is the Real Club de Golf de Las Palmas, which is Spain's oldest golf course. It was founded as early as 1891 but the facility was redesigned in 1957 and got its current look. With a fantastic view of mountain peaks and in direct connection to a volcanic crater, we promise you an experience beyond the ordinary.
