Newcastle upon Tyne, which is the full name, is located by the River Tyne in the north-east of England, near the border of Scotland. The city is named after the new castle that was built here around the year 1080 which replaced an older defense facility.

The 20 meter high steel statue Angel of the North is one of the most famous sights in the north east of England. Around 33 million visitors come here every year to admire the magnificent statue, which was erected in 1998. It can be found on Durham Road in Gateshead.

The club was founded in 1892 through a merger of the clubs Newcastle East End FC and Newcastle West End FC. The club has since joining The Football League 1893 all the time played in one of the two highest divisions in England's league system for football!
