Italy's fourth largest city, Turin or Torino as it is called in Italian, has about 1.7 million inhabitants. The city is best known for the car brand Fiat, the football team Juventus and Italian film.
The city is located in northwestern Italy, about 150 km from Milan. The climate is slightly cooler than the Mediterranean temperatures in the rest of Italy. July and August are the warmest here with about 30 degrees during the days.
The main landmark in Turin is the Mole Antonelliana. This historic building began to be built in 1863 on behalf of the Jewish community in Turin. The building has been used by the city for various museums and since the year 2000 it houses the country's national film museum, Museo Nazionale Del Cinema and it is well worth a visit.
In the Cathedral Duomo Di San Giovanne Battista you can see the famous Shroud of Turin. A linen cloth that since the 14th century has been claimed to be the shroud of Jesus. The authenticity of the scan is a much debated issue. The canvas has a faint imprint of a face and a body, but is the imprint of Jesus? There is of course no concrete evidence of that.
In Turin, the first solid chocolate was produced in the late 18th century. That was when a machine was invented that could offer alternatives to the drinkable chocolate. Turin is today a center for chocolate production and there are 17 factories in the city. The CIOCCOLATÒ chocolate festival in Turin has been held annually since 2003, with the participation of a number of Italian and international chocolate manufacturers. For 10 days, events, workshops and tastings are held with different types of chocolate - in all colors, flavors and shapes.
In Italy, it is still popular to drink chocolate. If you order a bicerine, you get hot chocolate mixed with coffee and topped with cream.

If you like to ski, there are all possibilities for that when you visit Turin. A day trip to the Italian Alps is something we at GO Sport Travel strongly recommend. Sestriere, Cervinia and Sauze d’Oulx are some popular ski resorts just 1 ½ hour from Turin Airport.
Turin International Airport is one and a half miles from the city center. The easiest way to get between the airport and Turin is by express train, bus or taxi. The travel time is approximately 30 - 40 minutes regardless of which means of transport you choose. Bus is the most convenient and cheapest, as the express train does not go to central Turin but to a station on the outskirts of the city.
